40 verschiedene Fakultäten

Dass es sich bei Eye-Tracking nicht einfach nur um ein intellektuelles Steckenpferd von weltfremden Professoren handelt, sondern um eine innovative wissenschaftliche Methode handelt, die eine neue Querschnittsinnovation begründet, wird einem langsam klar, je intensiver man sich damit beschäftigt. 8 grundverschiedene inhaltliche Funktionen, 16 verschiedene Unternehmensfunktionen, für die es genutzt werden kann und 40 verschiedene akademische Fachbereiche, die es bereits heute nachweislich für die Forschung einsetzen: Eye-Tracking wird heute in seiner Bedeutung für den wissenschaftlich-technologischen Fortschritt völlig unterschätzt.

Es ist heute sicher schwieriger, akademische Fachbereiche zu finden, die Eye-Tracking nicht nutzen, als solche zu nennen, die es einsetzen. Nachfolgend führen wir 40 verschiedene akademische Fachbereiche auf, für die sich Studien finden lassen, bei denen Eye-Tracking genutzt wurde.

„Warum ist das so?“ fragt man unwillkürlich. Warum ist Eye-Tracking mittlerweile so enorm weit verbreitet in der Forschung von so vielen verschiedenen Fakultäten? Die Antwort ist schnell gefunden. Durch Eye-Tracking können Wahrnehmung aber auch bestimmte emotionale Reaktionen des Menschen objektiv gemessen werden. Die Tendenz der Menschen, bei Befragungen nur das von sich zu geben, was sie im rechten Licht dastehen lassen und alles zu verheimlichen, was sie nicht preisgeben wollen, wird durch Eye-Tracking sehr erschwert oder ganz unmöglich gemacht. Man kann den Menschen jetzt regelrecht „in den Kopf gucken“, und ist nicht mehr auf verfälschte Befragungsergebnisse angewiesen, die die eigennützigen Selbstbildnisse der Befragten widerspiegeln. Das sind Möglichkeiten bei der Datenbeschaffung, die einer wissenschaftlichen Revolution sehr nahe kommen. Wir können plötzlich Dimensionen messen, über die man bisher nur vage Mutmaßungen anstellen konnte.

Unser Ziel ist hier, möglichst alle Fakultäten zu identifizieren, die bisher Eye-Tracking nutzen. Das Kriterium für einen akademischen Fachbereich hier genannt zu werden, bestand nicht darin, auf eine sehr große Anzahl von Studien blicken zu können. Bereits eine sehr kleine Anzahl war ausreichend für unsere Auswahl. Natürlich nutzen die unterschiedlichen Fachbereiche Eye-Tracking sehr unterschiedlich intensiv. Zu denjenigen Fachbereichen, die besonders viele Arbeiten mit Hilfe von Eye-Tracking erstellt haben, gehören z. B.: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Neurologie, Psychologie und Vision Science. Aber gerade auch Fachbereiche, die bisher erst eine sehr kleine Anzahl solcher Studien erstellt haben, sollten hier genannt werden, denn für innovative und kreative Wissenschaftler und Studenten, die Neuland betreten wollen, statt sich an Fragen abzuarbeiten, die schon seit Jahrzehnten bearbeitet wurden, ist es ermutigend zu sehen, dass Eye-Tracking auch in ihrem Fach erfolgreich eingesetzt werden kann.
